Bonita Hampton Smith

Chief Operating Officer, The King Center

Bonita T. Hampton Smith is a visionary leader whose life’s work has been dedicated to uplifting women, inspiring leaders, and transforming lives. As an inspirational speaker, certified nonviolence trainer, businesswoman, and author, Bonita’s journey is a powerful testament to her unwavering commitment to making a difference.

Her literary journey began with the heartfelt collection of poetry, “Echoes of My Soul,” published in 2003. This was followed by her enchanting children’s book, “Linzy Binzy, Around the World with Friends – First Adventure: Loving the Skin We’re In,” inspired by her niece, Lindsey Elizabeth Hampton. This book aims to nurture self-love and inspire children to embrace their inner brilliance.

Bonita’s passion for empowering women is the cornerstone of her mission. As a former Chaplain, she dedicated herself to supporting and empowering incarcerated women, women addicted to substance abuse and those on federal assistance, helping them transition to self-sufficiency. Her dedication to helping women discover their true selves and live out their highest potential is exemplified in her upcoming book “Dear White Woman, Dear Black Woman” – a project aimed at fostering understanding, healing, and unity among women of diverse backgrounds.

Bonita is the President of BHS Consulting, LLC, a company dedicated to “Bringing Healthy Solutions” to nonprofits with a focus on strategizing for impact and “Inside-Out” team building and leadership. Currently serving as the Chief Operations Officer for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, Bonita continues to drive positive change.
