THE CRITICAL SKILLS TO THRIVE IN AN AI-DRIVEN WORLD

creating the intangible@3x

The AI revolution is here, poised to upend every industry in its wake. But how will this new technology actually change how we build companies? In the face of algorithms and machine learning, intangibles that are uniquely human—skills like creativity, adaptability, and emotional intelligence—will be the clear drivers for growth.

Creating the Intangible Enterprise explains how AI will fundamentally change the landscape and, most importantly, shows leaders how to leverage the uniquely human skills—critical thinking, leadership, communication—that will become even more valuable in a world where the transactional aspects of work are handled by technology.

EXCERPT FROM THE OPENING PAGES

"Throughout this book, I spend a significant amount of time explaining how artificial intelligence will absolutely change the world, but perhaps not in the ways that we think it will. I will unpack how other technological advances were seemingly poised to wipe out entire industries—only they didn't.

For instance, the creation of spreadsheets was supposed to wipe out the entire accounting field. Alas, the accountants are doing quite well. As I will explain, adopting spreadsheets necessitated a need for accounting departments to consult on implementing this technology. The solution wasn't choosing between accountants and spreadsheets, but rather integrating accountants and spreadsheets. There was a human need to guide and oversee adoption and implementation.

Not to give away the ending, but the core tenet of this book is that we should view artificial intelligence through the lens of humans and algorithms, not humans or algorithms. The opportunity lies in humans possessing the knowledge and creativity to best utilize AI so that companies can efficiently solve problems and increase revenue.

This deeply personal project was an exercise in using human analysis to test and evaluate the functions of AI. My mission was to focus on the opportunities of AI versus the fears of AI. I felt that it was best accomplished by giving some background and history of technologies that promised massive disruption, showing how people adapted to this technology, and providing some focused strategies and skills to thrive in an AI-driven world."
